Which grabs your attention first: the colorful fall leaves or the dreary sky?
For me, it depends on my mood. Whatever the mood, my focus will turn inward and my mind’s attention will sway from its latest stray thought. My wardrobe is sure to play a part. The light jacket I’m wearing reminds me that summer days are quickly becoming just another sunny memory.
Autumn arrived in the still of last night when the temperature plummeted from the warmth of daytime sunlight to the promise of frost on the pumpkin. My body forewarned me of the cooling temps and I silently, automatically reached for a blanket in my sleep.
As I left the house this morning, I watched as dry leaves came tumbling down and gave the earth a crunchy covering. The sound of brittle leaves breaking and swishing beneath my feet signaled me that Nature is preparing for its winter arrival. I saw my breath highlighted in the frosty air as I said to no one in particular – “Are we ready for the seasons to change…again?”
When I passed beneath one of my favorite maple trees, I looked up and saw variegated leaves providing a natural frame for viewing the grumpy sky. I realized then that I need not focus on only one of the scenes before me: autumn’s flourish of colors or dark cloudy threats hiding the sun.
The fall spectrum is all the more brilliant when set against the grays from above. And the grays veiling the sunshine are only temporary. After the wind completes its task, the skies will return to a lighter shade. And no matter the temperature outside, my mood will feel warm once again.
Wishing you colorful hues to lighten your dreary moments,
